Right now they are 70K for an 07......in 2010 they will probably be 35K.....and then some years after that they will be $18K just like the D2 S8's were last month. Now they are 17K and below.
To think people bought our S8's for $65K + when they were new.....and they were the rave.
I'm looking forward to my D3 S8 with carbon fiber, maybe the two tone seats and dolphin grey?

amen brutha - agreed. I was just lining up an '07 test drive for a bud (and moi!) but alas...
...he's now waiting until spring.
Sigh.
Mebbe I'll still go over and whirl it heh heh.
And
If I don't / can't parlay into a D3 when D2 replacement time arrives - how poignent is it that I'd def. consider another cherry D2 as replacement??? Tough call against an e39 ///M5 tho.
BTW, D2 //S8s started @ ~ $72k, plus options, gas guzzler, etc. Most ended up near $78k.

Sticker price was $78K - I don't think they sold any for over $70K out the door
Maybe they did the first year....but after that they heavily discounted them or at least I think they did. I know Laurel Audi had an 03 sitting around until late 04 or so and sold it for $56K brand new.

I've been looking at those 35% residuals as well...
With resale and residuals on all of these in the toilet, it may provide for some interesting transportation opportunities in the next few years. While we are all lamenting how the value of the D2s has dropped recently, it's similar to the housing market. You take a beating on the smaller house that you are selling, but are able to get the bigger house for a much greater savings and, therefore, theoretically make out much better on the exchange.
All of those off-lease D3s should be interesting and affordable in a few more years, just as the D2s are now.

My PO Paid $76K
Traded it in on a W12 Phaeton. Slightly off-topic, but was checking some of those out on eBay recently; moderate-mileage V8 Phaetons are falling harder and faster.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___04-VW-Phaeton-66k-Mi-Exc-Cond-NAV-Loaded_W0QQitemZ290280066191QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Tru cksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?has h=item290280066191&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_ trkp
