I'm selling my 98 A8 (cry)
I just moved to California and I'm commuting over 100 miles a day to work (temp, but still!). So I'm reluctantly selling my baby! I'm asking $7,800. I'm in the Riverside/Palm Springs area.
She's in good condition and I just had the AC blower fixed on her. 96K miles, but the timing belt has already been done, and mechanically, she's in good running shape. I also gave her a tune up about 20K miles ago, recently changed air filter, reg. maintained car.
I just can't see me using this car as a commuter car, even though it's only for a few more months until I buy a place closer to work. I'm buying something I can put some miles on and not think twice about it. This is just not a commuter car.
E-mail me if interested and I can probably send some photos.
Specs:
96 A8 Quattro, Green, winter package, new tires, well maintained. Few nicks and scratches, but otherwise the paint is in good shape.

also meant to say - sorry you are selling - great cars - specially for long cruising - altho gas prices right now - maybe don't blame you .. . approaching $20 a day/$400 a month at those miles .. . ouch!

You could not have a better commuter car!
When you consider comfort, safety, decent fuel economy (I avg 24 mpg), style, AWD and power, I think the A8 is the ultimate commuter car.
The saftey thing is HUGE to me. I have seen cars hit HARD on my morning commute and I would not want to be in some little econobox when a big 3/4 ton pickup slams into the rear of me in traffic. The A8 is one of the safest cars on the road.
You are already right around the bottom of the deprciation cycle and should have many good miles left in her if she has been well maintained (and it appears so).
I'd be interested to know what you are thinking about replacing it with? Just curious. Good luck with your sale!

I commuted in my '02 A8L for a while...

I really enjoyed using my D2 as a commuter car. Was driving 60 miles round-trip. Nice smooth ride, safe, plenty of power to keep up with the interstate traffic, and decent gas mileage for such a big engine. Not to mention the "uniqueness factor" of seeing hundreds and hundreds of cars every day and only seeing another D2 once or twice. I put 20,000 miles on her in 8-9 months.
A month ago, however, I was offered a job closer to home making more money and better benefits, so I accepted. Commute to/from work now: 2.5 miles.

I don't understand why you have reservations on putting miles on the A8...its an Audi, not Ferrari
As others have said, the A8 is the perfect commuter car. I've only recently replaced mine with a different car due to the fact that I could not find a decent D2 in the area, and I needed a car fast. D2s are so unique and a great value! For 7800 bucks....what else are you going to get? You can't even buy a used Chevy Cobalt for that. I'd just keep it and put up with the few mpgs you could be saving in the course of a few months. If indeed, you think its going to be more than temporary, or a reliability issue, I understand that as well.
You could pick up a 5 series...LOL they're like *******s...everyone's got one. Not everyone has a D2 though. I don't get the "nod" in the 5...I get upper middle class, middle aged women with cell phones glued to their ears going to lunch with the ladies, wondering why I waved to them look.

Why sell it??
I drive about 300 miles/wk also. What kind of car can you get for $7800? And how would you like driving said car 100 miles/day? My A8 has 165m miles on it and I'm going to drive it to at leat 200m! Then I'll buy an S8 and start all over again. I'm not going to drive some cheesy econo box in order to get an additional 5-10 mpg.
