How well do A8's show their age vs. comparable steel cars?
As I ponder my potential A8 purchase, a thought about the appearance of an aging car comes to mind. Even if properly cared for, some cars begin to look dated and/or run down. Some of that is due to styling (especially in the "sporty" category). I would imagine the A8's conservative styling would age better than most. Also, I'm thinking that the aluminmum body panels don't have the rust issues of steel. How resistant are they to dings and paint issues compared to steel?
What are others' thoughts on the current and future aging of a late 90's A8?

My '99 4.2 (200Kkm) was well maintained by its PO and looks as though it just came out of the dealer's showroom. Aluminum will oxidize (not rust) if left unprotected, but that should not be an issue if the care is taken care of.

My insurance quote in rural WA is only ~$90/mo. in total
Must be the difference between NJ and rural WA. With collision (ACV - $250 ded.) and comp ($100 ded.) and reasonable liability and uninsured motorist limits, my SIX month premium would be around $500. Even with ACV (actual cash value), I shouldn't be too far off if my purchase price is fair.

Oxidation...
Once the aluminum forms it's initial outer shell of oxidation, also known as sapphire - one of the hardest minerals known to man, (aluminum oxide) it will not oxidize any more. Aluminum's oxidation is also it's DIAMOND-HARD protective shell.
Yuu must coat aluminum in mercury to get it to corrode.

My old non-aluminium Audi at 8 yrs looked brand new---but spent its life in TX! :-)
Audis have been fully galvanized for 15yrs+ now, so even late-80s Audis, if properly cared for and maintained, can be found in mint condition.
