Default Help please-does anyone here know what activates the trunk lights

When mine worked there was a clunck noise in the upper left area of the trunk as the lights came on.
Since my new boot was fitted they no longer activate and there is no clunk.
The curcuit fuse was blown when it came back from the paint shop taking out the footwell lights and puddle lamps as well.
Replaced the fuse and all work except the trunk lights.
Any ideas welcomed

The lights as far as im aware are activated by the micro-switch built into the boot/trunk lock/latch assy.

if you have had your boot lid replaced, then they would have swapped over the lock to the new lid, so maybe its out of adjustment (probably not if it works ok),
or the wires have been knicked /trapped when they installed it (hence the blown fuse) and its shorted out.
probably best to remove the bootlid trim and have a look inside and see if anything like the wiring loom is obviously damaged

Default As Nickg says there is a microswitch but not in the strict sense...

IIRC there is ball bearing that rolls back and forth as the angle of your trunk's dangle changes thereby completing or breaking the circuit. If you ar not hearing this click when the trunk is at it's apex my money is that the ball bering was pinched somehow. That said, for sire heed Nick's advice to check wires etc.

Default Correction - I just looked and sure does appear to be a microswitch in the strict sense...

The lights are triggered as the trunk latch opens and closes. There is no ball bearing type thing. By closing the latch with the trunk open and slightly depressing the trunk button you can hear the microswitch click and the lights go on/off. There are three lights. Two on top under the parcel shelf and one slightly off center towards the driver's side at bumper level.

Default turns out the gravity switch was "misplaced" during the replacement of the lid
