Default 98 front bumper blank panel

My wife has a 98 and it used to have a blank panel in the front where a license plate would go if Michigan required a front plate. Somewhere (car wash?) it disappeared. I've seen plate holders on ebay but never the blank panel. I know the whole bumper cover is rare and not cheap but wonder if in a state that requires a front plate someone might have the cover laying around or know of a source.

Also, does it have an official name? It's not much bigger that the plate holder.

Thanks for the link. However, the item (ref # 12A on the parts diagram) is not listed on the right side with part # and price. So I called the Jim Ellis Audi dealer listed on the page. Mind you the trim piece is about 20" wide, 5" high. It covers the area where a license plate holder would bolt on. Over the years, I'm guessing people who needed to put on a front license plate holder may has simply thrown away this thin plastic trim piece.

So I called Jim Ellis. He gave me the part # and price. I also called a local Audi dealer and asked availability, price. Parts guy at Ellis didn't pause for a second when he gave me a price. Local dealer asked me if I was sitting down. The price both gave me was $363.00!!!!!

I know stuff isn't cheap for an Audi, but I have to believe somewhere, somehow, this is a mistake in their master part system. I figured on the extreme upper end it might be $50 buck, but 363???

Is there someone on this board who has any contact with Audi and can verify this?

It is simply called "bumper trim piece" and is part # 4d0807287CGRU

Yep, $363.

GAP has it for $270.07. ECS has it for $280.68. Try Shokan or Ebay or start calling junk yards. I got lucky and picked up a silver trim panel for my '02 on Ebay for $50. My car only had the piece that accepts a front license plate, and I detest front license plates (even though my state "requires" one).

Good luck.

Yup, that's the right price for a new part from a dealership. Welcome to 15 year old German flagship prices.

I read somewhere that all of these cars came with both styles of front panels and were swapped out at the dealer depending on the state laws. I heard the other style was sometimes stored in the car somewhere. Nothing to verify that though, and no further information.

I recently was parting out my parts car (99 A8 quattro) when I opened the spare tire section, there was a front licence plate blank in there, same color as the car (silver) if you guys are interested $50...

Just another option:
Easy Square Holland sell it for €112.42 - plus a bit of freight, call it change from $150...
