Crazy HVAC update #2...
Well, tested it this morning (outside temp @ 35-38F) in ECON mode set @ 75F. Center dash vents had cold ambient air, while rear center and passenger vents blew warm air. Not sure what to make of it, but I think the center dash/passenger vents are pulling air from the outside, while the rear air is coming through the heater block.
Utterly strange and frustrating. I'm sure this can be calibrated somehow, though not merely with the Basic settings in Vag-Com. It needs a more in-depth calibration.
(And yes, Paul -- I'm saving up for a Bentley (tough economic times, you know)).

The top center vents can get warm air, but not warm like your feet get
Did you turn the dial to the red dot? Was it uncomfortable or comfortable in the car?
In the winter or cold months, I set my temp to about 69 or 70, if I set it for 75, it's going to be waaaay too warm.
Was it in AUTO?

I tested both cold and hot extremes of the center vents...
All set on AUTO ECON, BTW.
Driver's side and rear left pillar blew @ proper temp (i.e. 75F), passenger side, rear center and rear right pillar vents blew warm air (definitely warmer than 75F).
The results are similar when testing in warmer outside temperature (RE: A/C Warm Air/Cold Air Issue - Update 03-10-2009). The ONLY difference with the above results being the rightmost center vent blowing warmer air than the set temperature.

it does sound like a flap motor/servo. Do the A8 climate control units run a self diagnosis like
the older A6 units do per this tech article?
article for A6...not A8 as far as I know.

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/int5.shtml</a

Is it possibly a coolant-flow problem?
The servo diagnostic readings looked reasonable (in a previous post).
Is it possible that a low coolant flow or a stuck water valve (if there is one) could cause this type of assymetrical heat problems?
One way to check it out is to put a "snake-cam" down your HVAC to look at the air doors for proper movement, but only dealers and garages might have such equipment.
