Default 2001 S8: YouTube Auction Rebuild

For all you D2 fans, these two YouTubers purchased a salvage yard 2001 D2 S8 in pearl white. As a former owner of one of these beast, I'll be watching this adventure closely.

Enjoy.

"I didn't know they had S-cars that far back."
Not exactly well educated on Audi. S cars showed up in the US nearly a decade prior to the S8.

New video. She started and moved forwards and backwards on its own power. It looks promising, but the devil is in the details with these cars.

Good luck boys!

Nice to see this. It popped up in my youtube feed. There is something like a primal satisfaction when saving a car from scrap. Some car guys are all about that. Some are all about leasing a new model every 30 months. Both are somewhat irrational at their extremes. When saving an old car... one can get in deep fast, the repair spiral can get out of control especially if you're not a DIY'er. It will be interesting to see where this one goes but I think pearl white / ecru combo limits the mass appeal of this D2. I'm glad the D2 is getting some respect and attention. EVERYONE who I've introduced one to has grown to appreciate them. Even some well developed car guys haven't ever heard of them. I hope this one doesn't end up with a trans fail but at that mileage, it's possible.

I agree with you, John. When the transmission warms up, we'll see if it starts to slip. Based on initial impressions of the car, it almost has to be a transmission issue that put this car in the scrapyard.

I can sympathize. I got rid of mine this week. 150k miles and trans died. Had it for 5 years and loved it and it had that caramel interior. Still started and drove but when it warms up....u know the drill. I took the fog light grill$- I bought them over the life of the car.

Bummer Fondriest12. These were/are such great cars. Almost a year after I sold my S8, I still think I made a mistake getting rid of her.
