CEL - EVAP emission control system
I have a Ross Tech VCDS (latest version) and it pulled 2 fault codes on my 2001 A8L (36,000 miles) the 2 codes are 16826- EVAP Emission Control Sys. Small Leak i Intermittent and 16839 EVAP System: Large Leak Detected.
What am I looking at as far as repair costs, if anyone can tell me, your help is greatly appreciated. By the way the Ross Tecg VCDS is worth it's weight in gold.

I used to get a "Small leak" code, but it went away almost on its own...
The gas cap has a check valve in it. The leak seemd to disappear after I cleaned the gas cap and gas cap gasket. Maybe just anecdotal but that was 2 years ago.
I never had a "large leak" code - but a loose gas cap could possibly give you that.

Re: Reset the codes, then see if they recur, before you do anything.
I always make sure the gas cap is on tight, I cleared the codes, will see it recurrs. I don't think it is anything that would damage the engine.

Re: I had the "small leak leak code" dealer performed this work---->
Your codes are different, you had a valve sticking open. How much did the dealer charge for the service performed??
Thanks

I think I've replaced that part twice on my A8, and that is a possibility.
There's a test for it in the Bentley, IIRC. Around $80 or $100 for the part, also IIRC, and very easy to replace. It's high up, in the engine compartment, near the firewall on the passenger side.
