Camshaft Codes and Fix
New Codes
17927 - Camshaft Adjustment; Bank 1: Malfunction
P1519 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16692 - Cylinder 8: Misfire Detected
P0308 - 35-00 - -
Just ordered this
http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GF21011-B
Question is:
Can I get away with replacing the pads or should I replace the tensioners and chains while in there.
Pad pair is only $30
While best price I found on tensioner and chain = $220

Been thinking about it more and here is what I came up with.
Car burns a good amount of oil though none is leaking on floor.
I went to a thicker oil to burn less but I think all it has done is get less oil to valves and maybe the cause of these codes.
I’m going to have you replace the gaskets so I stop burning oil and I’m going to go back to 5-40 and see if codes go away.
I think probably all about oil flow.

cam chain adjuster
I would change them they go bad and the main cause for breaking the pads in the first place.
They are the cause for the codes you are getting in the first place.
Check your plugs for burning of engine oil.

If its just that fault code and no hideous noises, than no, Its the actual tensioner itself has failed. Which are much more. If the pad were the issue it would be making some seriously bad noises.

Thanks for all of the good input.
After changing back to 5w oil the first code is gone.
It has thrown the codes three times in past week but now gives only these 2:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16692 - Cylinder 8: Misfire Detected
P0308 - 35-00 - -
Reading other threads gives some suggestions.
Swap out coil pack from Cylinder 8 see if it moves.
Replacing spark plugs had this go away for many.
About that time to do that anyway.
will report back with 8 new bosch platinum's.
