Brembo parts

What is this metal insert in a Brembo caliper called? Is it available as a separate part somewhere? Looks to me as though the corrosion under the metal pad is causing it to raise slightly. This is where the brake pad slides. The other side of the caliper, the pad slid right out. This one required a bunch of wiggling/hammering/pulling to remove, so I figured the corrosion under the metal pads had caused the tight squeeze. The pads are supposed to slide against and away from the rotor on these metal parts.

You ever figure this out? I can't find that part listed separately anywhere. I wonder if you couldn't just take it off and grind a bit underneath to fit everything flush. I imagine that sliding surface is steel, so maybe some high temp paint on the underside of it to prevent future corrosion.

I left the stainless in place. Didn't want to have the screw break off. I ground the ends of the new pad plates slightly to let them slide. Temporary fix, I know. Car gets garaged for the winter, so I may try removing the insert then because I'll have nine months to have the calipers rebuilt if necessary.

I have the exact same problem with my D2 S8 Brembo calipers. I just finished rebuilding my calipers and attempted to order these pad slider plates from Sunset Audi. The bad news is that Audi does not offer this part separate from a new caliper. Boo I say. Never fear, I have an idea that just might work.
I had the same issue with a set of 1989 944 Turbo calipers that I rebuilt about 10 years ago. I was able to source replacement plates from Sunset Porsche at that time. I believe our D2 S8 Brembo calipers are very similiar if not the same as my 89 944 Turbo calipers. They are either the same as those or the same as Porsche big black calipers. I can't remember. Either way I believe both share the same pad slider plates. I'll check with Sunset Porsche and let everyone know what I find out. Stay tuned. I am determined to crack this nut.

I agree, Sam. But it got the car on the road until I can figure out something else, like rebuilding the calipers. Car is only driven 2-3K miles a summer and sits garaged all winter. I'm thinking next fall I'll take 'em off and deal with it over the winter.

Ok, I was wrong. My memory did not serve me well in this case. The pad plates are different between the Porsche and Audi Brembo calipers. I am going to do some more digging and see if I can source these directly from Brembo.

Just changed my front pads today and discovered the exact same issue. The last set of pads were replaced by an Audi dealership and it was evident they had also ground some metal off the ends of each pad backing plate. As much as I hated doing so, I ended up getting out the grinder and doing the same. Yuck. I figured this was a better option than risking the pads binding in the caliper.
I'll be watching this thread with interest. Hopefully someone can post details of a better fix than grinding metal off the pads.
