Bought the GS300 AWD, Selling the 8, have some extra stuff
Ended up buying my father-in-laws GS300 AWD as I couldn't pass up the deal. Initial take is that it is a much different car from my impression of the old Lexuses. It is not a soft cornering Buick. Corners flat, rides well. Could use more HP, though it seems well geared to get performance out of the V6 motor. Would like to have the GS430, but that wasn't what the deal was on. Not as big as the 8, but actually I like that as it fits better in the garage. I like all the new "Chromey Go-Fasters" I didn't have on the 97 A8. Took it in for the complementary service, and it was nice being treated well. The set up is as nice as I had heard, good coffee, free internet, yada yada yada. Lexus knows how to treat a customer.
The 8 is for sell, but I've found out painfully, how little its worth. Oh well.
Anyways, I have a set of clear sidemarkers, sitting in the box, as well as a set of tan front mats I bought at the dealer a couple of months ago, but which were only in the car for about 2 weeks before I put in my winter mats. The new carpet mats were scotchguarded, so they are in great condition. Both sets of mats are for sale, although the winter mats, bought from MacNeil aren't custom for the Audi, though they do fit OK. Finally, I have the hardcover book, A8, by Levandowski, about the development of the 8. I believe it is in both German and English. If you're interested in any of it, let me know at szimme1025@aol.com or post a message here. THe email attached to my name here isn't live anymore.
Good luck to you all. I loved my 8, it was my 4th Audi (90S, 91 200Q, 94 V8Q, and 97 A8 4.2Q). I've had a long unrequited love affair with Audi, who knows, maybe I'll indulge again down the road. I've enjoyed my time here and enjoyed learning from you all. This has to be the best auto owner forum I've come across.
Thanks,
Sam

Re: Are the sidemarkers the same for a 98? Assume so, I was getting ready to order some, but would

You are right this is the best auto forum but...
I have to say as much as I loved my A8 I am glad it is out of my life. Ever since I swithced back to a Japanise car I am a free man again. I am sure you will experience the same with the Lexus. After owning two Audis and one VW I have to say never again. Life is too short to spend it under a car!!!

Me too, but I'm keeping the A8 for my "beater"
I love my 2K A8. It's kind of a gas hog, tho, and I've gone and bought a Toyota Prius for a commuter car. But the A8 is worth so little on the resale market, I don't feel guilty keeping it around for my "parade car." It's just such a magical driving automobile I can't bear to see it out of my life entirely. Maybe after a timing belt change I'll feel differently...
