Default Audi D2 Reincarnation

The old girl is good as new. A couple months ago, I posted "would you put $2,500 into a 1998 with 198,500 miles?" I wrestled with it and considered a two day trip to look at a same year car but decided to go with known bird in the hand than an unknown bird in another state. Finally pulled the trigger last week.

$2,713.14 later, it will probably last 10 more years. Only driven 5,000 miles or less per year)

Theoretically, I could have done this stuff myself but at 75 yrs old, might never have gotten uo from the garage floor. The following work was completed by trustworthy INDY
Timing belt service (full job with all rollers, idler, tensioner etc and water pump)
* Three existing water pump bolts were seized, had to be extracted
Serp belt and idler rollers
Oil cooler "pipes" replacement and seals
Replace fuel pump and filter (using pump housing with new internal pump)
Replace two O2 sensors
Oil, coolant and misc supplies, vac hoses, etc.
Minor AC leak fixed and new freon AC now cold

History of car:
Purchased with 125,000 mile in 2007
Body good other than a few minor dings
Interior excellent (except glove box doesn't open)
All drive train seals replaced shortly after purchase
Most suspension arms replaced

Everything else tires, brakes, etc all new in last 10,000 miles
Car runs excellent and for an old man's car, when you hit the gas it gets up and goes.
Driven by little old lady from Pasadena (Ha, my wife and not to "little")

I have kept complete records of every repair, maintenance, oil change, etc, since 2007. Previous owner has all records going back to 2004 Eventually, someone will get a car with documentation of maintenance. .

Any idea if the trans valve body has gotten an improved fluid pressure regulator? There are at least 2 versions available. The original one is notorious for breaking the A clutch drum, which puts the trans into 5th gear only (reverse still works). Then you need the trans removed and taken apart, instead of just dropping the pan to do the regulator valve upgrade.

Hey, you're in Philly.; My home town! The rebuild in 2008 included the drum and more. It sounds like you asking with interest. To clarify, it's not for sale. If it was, I'd have to get $5000 or more for it today. "Eventually", it may be for sale but that could be 5 or more years from now.

Cool.

Nah, I don't need another one. I got my '97 with the A drum blown from my cousin in Toronto. After the dealer told him it'd cost him $8000, he was going to junk it. So I got it for $100 and fixed it. See you on the forum.

I bought my 99 D2 in 2006 flew to bloody Indian to get it and drove it back to CO. I loved that car and sold it for $500 in 2018 when the tranny went out. It did have a rebuild tranny in 2009. It obviously needed a new tranny, a timing belt but I regret selling it! There was a mint 2000 D2 for $6000 a year ago and I should of jumped on it but I don't see any good D2 around here in Colorado any more I miss the seats, the fact that is was NOT an SUV that every family seems to own, it's V8, the way it handles, god my Highland make me and my family sick in the corners ..... etc etc ..... I know they are money pits but I think I calculated my D2 cost me $200 pm for the 12 years I owned it, not bad for a $60k car.

So if anyone has a mint gray D2 ........
