Default Anybody ever generate an emissions "readiness" code manually before?

I have had a check engine light on for a long time.....about 5 months. I have the fault codes listed below....so I was going to focus on the O2 sensors (which is actually the O2 sensor heater code, not the O2 sensor).

I got an emission check notice in the mail the other day, I can't get my car registered in June unless I pass emissions in IL which basically means you have a readiness code and you don't have a check engine light on.

Here are the codes:

Saturday,14,March,2009,16:07:55:13622
VCDS Version: Release 805.2

Address 01: Engine
Control Module Part Number: 4D0 907 560 AP
Component and/or Version: 4.2L V8/5V G 0001
Software Coding: 06753
Work Shop Code: WSC 02314
Additional Info: WAUGU54DX1N012848 AUZ7Z0A1817400
4 Faults Found:

17538 - Fuel Trim; Bank 2 (Mult): System too Lean
P1130 - 35-00 - -
17521 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B1 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1113 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17539 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor; B2 S1: Internal Resistance too High
P1131 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17536 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
P1128 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0000 0001

I checked all the resistances of the O2 sensor heaters, they are in spec, have correct voltage, etc.

<b>NOTE:</b> I just noticed that since I reset my codes about 6 starts ago (2 days ago), it still does not have a completed readiness code, which is 00000000, the catalytic converter is the last digit.....

So I was trying to manually create a readiness code which you can do with VAG-COM.....the O2 sensor heaters are good, they need to be in range....at first I couldn't get the post cat ones to come on....but then they did after driving the car 5 minutes:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/o2sensors1.JPG">

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/o2sensors2.JPG">

So then I had a readiness code of 00001001, which means the air injection system (5th "1", which means it hasn't been tested yet, and the cat system which is the last 0). I followed the Bently procedure and tested the air injection system.....it's good to go.

Then I kept trying to get the cat system going....but I think I finally figured out the problem...

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/o2sensors3.JPG">

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/o2sensors4.JPG">

I got the cats up to the 400 C to 540 C range....which takes driving it in tip and beating on it in 1st and 2nd, but never got it over 540 C.....so it would start the test but never give me the "completed okay", just that it ended the test.....so I think I need to go beat on it some more, than once it's above 540 C, then let it drop down below 540 C (which it will do quickly at idle) and do the test at idle.

READ THE PROCEDURE YOU IDIOT!

Has anybody ever done this before? My check engine light has not yet come back on, but I don't have a full readiness code, so it won't pass emissions.

BTW, my garage smells like cooked cats!

Default check your state/local regs carefully. some allow for

one or two readiness codes to be 'not ready'. I know this for a fact in Utah.

Default Isn't it the darndest thing that the emissions test always shows up when the CEL is on?

It's like they know...

Default MAF sanity test: for the S8 it should be around 290 g/s [EDITED]

".....Here's a good sanity check for the status of your MAF. Do a full-throttle run all the way to redline in a single gear (second works fine). Group 002 usually shows air mass in g/s (in many modern ECU's, consult your Factory Repair Manual for the specific group for your particular vehicle). Your peak airflow should be roughly 0.80 times your horsepower if you are close to sea level. So, if you have a stock 150 hp 1.8T, expect around 120 g/s. If you see significantly less than that, you MAF may be on the way out. Also note that airflow will be markedly different at higher altitudes due to reduced ambient air pressure, especially with naturally aspirated engines that do not have forced induction to overcome that deficiency. This still works if you are chipped, but "race" programs may make more power through timing, rather than airflow. Therefore, take all readings with a grain of salt."
And if you want to read the whole thing<ul><li><a href="http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Fuel_Trim_Info">here it is:</a></li></ul>

Default Actualy this time I got lucky on that.

Passed state test and a week later CEL came up on my S4. I have until next October to change my rear O2 sensors

Default phew is right! Who wants to go under the car in the snowy driveway.

Especially to replace the freaking O2 sensors.

Default I would check it with a cheap generic scanner.

That's what they will use. My car failed emission a week ago. I did not have the knee panel in the car so the OBDII connector was hanging by the wires. They told me that my vehicle is altered and I had to fix the car (put the panel back 2 minutes)and fill up a form who fixed the car, how much $$ I spent to fix it.............. /altered my vehicle LOL they don't know what altering a car looks like. Next day I went to a different station and passed with no problem. I gave them the form and the guy throw it out without looking at it.

Default Re: Anybody ever generate an emissions "readiness" code manually before?

hi everyone, i have an engine code on my car,what my mechanic says is it clear the codes.drive no more then 40 miles before the engine code pops up on the dash again, then he puts his reader for the inspection and it passes.it did it once before and it worked,but if ur engine code pops up before the 40 miles like 30 miles or below it wont work. the trouble i have now is the engine code pops up at 15 miles because of more codes on the car.
