Does it not even try to start? If not try neutral rather than park, and wiggle the shifter around if need be. Could also be the key switch I suppose.

If like you say you just do not have enough current have the battery load tested and clean up the power junction lug on the frame as well as the battery terminals, etc.

Please clarify if the starter is clicking or rat-tat-tatting and drawing current or if it's just not in the game.

Thank you for the reply.
I didn’t mention that I have replaced the starter after checking for power both in the lug on the frame and in the two pin connector above it.
Both had power and were clean but starter wouldn’t turn.
If I jumped power from the lug to the red / black wire in the two pin connector I can get the starter to turn. With the key on the car starts.
i found the relay in the right footwell that feeds the red black wire and it was working. I then assumed that wire was bad. I ran another wire from the relay and still no crank.
i put power from the 40amp fuse to the original wire and the starter cranked.
im thinking now it’s the starter switch as you mentioned.
Any thoughts?

I guess I don't understand. If you had power to the starter and the "start" signal wire but the starter would not turn, either you did not have enough power or the starter was bad. Did the starter click or rattle and did the voltage drop suggesting the starter was trying?

You would not have a "start" signal at the starter if the key switch or park/neutral interrupter was misbehaving.

Default Starter wire

On the starter: did you connect the small wire to the upper/inner terminal? There are two spade connector terminals on the starter. It won't work on the lower one.

Default Manual swap

manual swaps are very time consuming. It makes the project more expensive than a price of an average D2 today. By the time you are sourced all the parts and add all the labor and coding you are looking at $8k minimum.
rebuilding the auto trans will last the car's remaining lifetime.
