First of all, "recent timing belt"? Did seller show you an actual invoice from a reputable shop, showing date and all work/items replaced as part of T-belt service. Unless seller is a family member, don't believe a verbal, "it was done recently" Yes, they lie
Next, tranny flush is ok, but it's possible a seller will have tranny flush if problems are noticed. D2 trans are notoriously weak, Torque converter or solenoid problems are common. Drive it for a while to make sure it's hot. accelerate and watch the tachometer as it shifts. It it "flares" (RPMs bounce up at shift), it's likely a problem
Check the coolant reservoir. Coolant should be pink. If it is dark / muddy brown or silvery streaks, it has stop leak in. The oil cooler is also a comm issue. Seals / pipes between cooler and block will start to leak very slowly at first. Generally, after engine is warmed up, it won't leak. During the cool down period overnight is when it will drip.
Start the engine when cold after sitting over night. If you hear a clatter for 1st 5-10 seconds, it is the cam chain tensioner. Also common problem
Fuel pump is another problem area. There really isn't a way to test it. I would ask if it's been replaced.
All of the above can turn a D2 into a money pit. Insist on seeing all maintenence history. If from a used car dealer who likely bought it at auction, it's a crap shoot.
I've bout a lot of Audis from private parties (both A6 and A8 and always ask about documentation.
If the seller has only owned the car a short while, be wary. He may realize he has a money pit and wants to dump it quick. A seller who has owned a D2 for years and has a thick folder of history is your best bet

Thank you,
these were my thoughts as well. Talking to him on messenger, and he had done all the work himself. Further discussion confirmed he wasn’t a mechanic. At that point I decided to pass. He owned the vehicle for 2 years, and had put 6 k on the vehicle since the work. Trying not too offend as his work could be good but for a job that big I couldn’t risk it on a no returns basis. I will wait
thanks again all good information
