Is this 2002 worth it?
Hi I am looking to join the a8 family. I just wanted to know what you guys think of this car. The guy is not budging too much on price but it is in real good shape and it drove fine as well. Is there anything else I should look for? The only problems I noticed were the radio has a dead line in the display and the ashtray cover is hard to move.

2002 A8L

Well how much money you got to burn?
I'm new to the A8 group too and I just bought a '97 A8 about 4 months ago. It had a little less than 100k on it, it has the summer and winter packages, black on black. About the only thing its missing is Tiptronic/xeons/cd changer. I only Paid 10K for it. So your car seams a little high milage for the year.
sounds like a timming belt is in the near future $$$
For 23-24K I'd be looking at some of the first S8s out there. ( i still have turbo envy from my old 5000 TQs )
Just my 2cents, ( and the 10K i spent on mine is the most I've ever spent on a car! )
If your willing to do a lot of the work yourself you can save a lot of money, so you can spend it on good tools :-)

Looking at a new TB
I bought an '01 S8 a few months ago for the about the same price. Had a few more miles on it. '02 A8s are going for the high 20s, low 30s, so that price seems reasonable for the mileage. The pre-2000 cars had some transmission issues, but afterwards they seem pretty reliable.
Where are you located? I don't know if I would trust just any mechanic to look after that car...

See if anyone on the forum is local and willing to VAG it for you.
Overall, it looks like a nice car, but it would be nice to hook up a VAG-COM to verify basic functionality of key components and look for any fault codes. You may also want to check the NJ area Audiworld forum for local assistance. Good luck.

Is the CD changer missing?
With or without the changer, that's not a _bad_ deal, but as the others have noted, you can expect to spend $2000 on assorted necessaries (TB, etc) in the first 6 months.

A couple of more questions
The cd changer isnt missing 02 A8s had an indash 6 disc changer. Also I guess I should look into old records of the car and see if the TB has been changed. Is there anything else I should look out for? Also does the headrest button on the dash, raise and lower the headrests?
