Default Rust on brake caliper plate

Hey all,

Is anyone else experiencing rust on the bolt-on plate that covers part of the front brake caliper housings? After only 6000 miles mine have already started to rust. A lot. Nothing like a big blob of rust to make your expensive luxury car look like a steaming pile of...well...you know.

I took it to the dealer today who told me that the heat from braking dissolves the clearcoat on them and that's why they're rusting. As though that's some kind of reasonable excuse for why it's happening and why they won't do anything about it.

They suggested that *I* take them off and get them painted myself. Nice.

Anyone else?

Get them powder coated at a local shop. It will not cost that much. They need to be sand blasted first.

I guess, but isn't that enabling the problem? Maybe I expect too much, but this seems like something that would happen on a Kia, not an Audi.

I checked mine and it is a dull silver color (fairly rough finish) after 6 months use, including a few months of damp Canadian winter. No rust at all.

This is definitely a manufacturing defect. Send this picture to head office (even to Germany if needed) if you don't get satisfaction from your dealer.

Wow!!!!! I am speechless about this defect. I can't believe your dealer just brushed you off for this problem. I too agree that this needs to be replaced by Audi.

Agreed. Audi should correct this! I would talk to service manager, sales manager, owner. Whomever I needed to get that corrected. I'm VERY surprised they are giving you a problem with this.
