Default Just ordered my suction pump from clairparts.com

Part number "058 133 753 B", $26.73. I should have it at noon time. Stop by the auto parts store for a replacement clamp and I'm on my way.

As long as it doesn't rain, I should be able to do this today. I'll take pictures as I'm doing it.

Original thread

Default I don't think so

I'm not sure of the proper testing procedures, but all I did was blow into each opening. Nothing blew out the other end, and it matched perfectly with the new one.

Unless I'm way off base, I'd say my suction pump was fine. In the end, I paid roughly $30 and 25 minutes worth of time for peace of mind.

Default Excellent play by play. Looks like a tight sqeeze in the back...

of the engine. What were they thinking when they designed it? Looks like a real PITA to clean the throttle body also.

I wouldn't worry about the lower clamp, looks solid. Another candidate for clogging is the crankcase breather. Did you have a seal problem before? I had a cam seal leak 10k ago replaced under warranty. It would be a real shame if all these seal failure were caused by excessive crankcase pressure.

Default Not entirely sure

I have a bit of greasy dirt appearing on the left rear of the engine which is a new occurance for me. I was hoping the suction pump was completely clogged, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'll have to track down the crankcase breather and have a look at it.

Default Re: suction pump

I changed mine and had the same experience as audiSean.

An audi mechanic mentioned about carbon deposits in suction pump. suction pump contains a filter in the center which might get clogged but nothing would come out when you blow through it.

Default Re: Suction pump replaced

FYI, there's a related technical service bulletin regarding OBD-II codes P1123/P1125/P1137/P1139. These codes indicate that the long term fuel trim is out of range (either too lean or too rich) and will cause your MIL light to come on if they are set.

According to the bulletin, a clogged suction pump may also cause one of these codes to be set. Of course, any other aspects of the fuel system may also be the culprit (bad injector, fuel pump, etc.), but it's something else to check.

I was getting sporadic P1137s and P1139s, and replacing the suction pump seems to have fixed it (thanks for the great instructions by the way!)
