I take a different approach to bleeding the cooling system. Rather than allow the car to heat and build pressure before opening the bleeder, I bleed the system cold using compressed air. I open the bleeder and use an air gun and a rag to put as much pressure into the system I can through the coolant bottle. When I did the A4, the upper hose blew off with a bang, creating a fountain of coolant that hit both me and GBW, and spattered coolant everywhere.
Live and learn.
