hard rubber plug, or a rag (no lint) that fits snugly so you don't lose fluid. I lost maybe a teaspoon of fluid, but I also never disconnected the bottom line as there was enough slack/flex there to be able to move the carrier over to the side at maybe a 45 degree angle, maybe a bit more.
