the weak point is the sensor. however with so many things if life with new technology, i'm not too worried. if it had a dipstick, that would be a nice back up.
only problems with sensors were with cold temps. condensation could give off bad numbers and show incorrect levels. that's been fixed as of 07 i guess. with bmw's changes (if you are time based), you'll get a change every year vs. the 15K. they use Castrol Synthetic. at least you know they're supposed to be using synthetic. back in the day, Audi let their dealers use whatever...bunker oil Pennzoil 5w-30 dino was being used by my dealer. then it switched to a blend. scary. i've gone through a shop tour, and you see the nice bottles of the snazzy Castrol that we can't get at Autozone. it's at least comforting. i'm going to get a couple quarts to throw in the trunk. as my SA says (great guy)...if it blows, it's our problem. but the benefit....rotors, pads, lightbulbs...everything which is nice. have to say, bmw's service has been great. i do still like audis...i wish they'd flush some of the dealers.
