    I'd say that was more the function of the manual tranny...

    ...a guy I worked with had a 2.7T manual at the same time I had the 2.7T tiptronic. He got better mileage, and we had virtually the same drive every day (he lives two towns away, and we took the exact same route to and from work). He would average around 21mpg while I was hovering around 18mpg. I suppose if I used the tip more, maybe I'd get better mileage, but the manual also has a 6th speed which has it's benefits when cruising.
