Have you already done this for your car? Results?
What is the turnaround time? Remember, one should not drive the car around without the instrument cluster. When it is time to sell the car, you cannot guarantee that the odometer is accurate if you drive the car without the cluster. Also, for those with immobilizer, your car will not operate without the cluster.
For me, I'd rather pay the extre few hundred "net of the core charge for the old cluster) to have it done for a couple of reasons. The first is that a dealer-replaced instrument cluster is documented, so that there would be no issues with any potential odometer reading discrepencies.
Also, consider the downtime involved with sending a cluster out, having them reair it, and sending it back. It would cost me $$ to find alternate transportation, so in the end, how much am I really saving?
Lastly, the immobilizer issue...hopefully they have done this successfully in a car equipped with immobilizer. However, when the cluster is out of the car for that amount of time, does the immobilizer need recoding? If so, dealer involvement is necessary, unless you have the 7-digit SKC, which almost NOBODY has.
Regardless, thanks for your legwork on this matter! Perhaps, over time, those taking up this offer can chime in to give feedback!!!
