Default Back from the body shop!!! <<edited>>

So my long awaited repair and RS6 sides are now complete!!! A quick preview...

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_16.jpg">
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_17.jpg">

This all started when Bdog4.2 did this to his white 4.2. Of course,, at the time I owned a 2.7T, so this made me VERY jealous of the 4.2 and S6 owners with those wide fenders. Then we see trichards do the same mod to his Atlas Gray S6 Avant (now in the possession of SharkAttack a/k/a 4.2go). Again, I am green with envy. Finally, carbonLORD does this to his silver 4.2, and now I am really starting to think...

So last year, I decide to go for it and get myself a 4.2 so I too can have those flares. Of course, I could not have done this without the help from Press (who scouted the car for me, test drove it, got service records from his local dealer, etc.) and Grapeking (who flew to Chicago with me to drive it back to Boston). When I picked up the car, there was a sizeable door ding on the passenger side rear door, and I notice that the paint is off a bit on the rear quarter and that same door. A quick look and I think cosmetic repairs only, I've already paid for the car and registered it, I'm taking it home! I found only a few pics of my car with those mismatched panels (from the Bentley Manual photoshoot):

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/photoshoot_1.jpg">
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/photoshoot_3a.jpg">

Regardless, I of course, was happy as a clam anyway about my new 4.2, and start modding wildly right away...in fact the very 1st mod was the RNS-E navigation less than an hour after I picked it up so I could use it on the drive home!!!

Long list of things added/upgraded, but I always had the RS6 sideskirts in the back of my mind. Last summer, I found a used set of RS6 sideskirts in Avus Silver on eBay UK, and snatched them up. A4AdMan played courier and picked up my pre-paid RS6 flat door blades from Clairparts, one of my last over-the-counter purchases from that price-leading place.

The sideskirts arrived safely, but at the time I was hesitant to put them on the car becuase New England winter was not far away, and I did not want to get them painted only to ruin them shortly after installing them. So I stick them down in the ever crowded Audi parts crawlspace for future consideration.

Now spring approaches, and I decide that I really should just get NEW sideskirts for the car...after all, a local Audi guy who recently came to the local forum said that he was a parts manager at a Dodge dealer, but could get discounted parts for Audi folks since there is an Audi dealer in the "family" of dealers. I take him up on his offer and get the new parts.

So now I am thinking that I should have the body shop paint the parts at the same time I get those panels fixed. So I take advantage of a free "loaner" car since my parents are going away for two weeks (they live in the same town), and I make the appointment with the body shop.

They begin to do their magic, taking care of that nasty ding (dentless removal was not going to work on that)
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_1.jpg">

I come back the next day, and I see that they are starting to remove some of the inferior paint work from the previous owner's body shop...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_4.jpg">

I go visit the RS6 sideskirts just sitting in the prep shop...waiting for the rest of the car...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_5.jpg">

I go to visit later and find them masking, ready for the paint...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_6.jpg">

Of course, after they painted the two rearward panels an tried to blend using the front door, the paint guys are not happy with the color blend/match. Silver may be the fastest color, but it is the hardest to match! No picture, but I returned to find them prepping the entrie right side of the car for paint.

Here is the car finished in the spraybooth, and getting all those bits and pieces reinstalled...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_7.jpg">

Now I can visit the sideskirts painted and ready to be installed...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_8.jpg">

Not half bad...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_9.jpg">

Today, thanks to a ride from Yogee, I go to the shop to grab the finished product. Not a moment to spare, since at 9:30PM I have to pick up my parents from the airport!

Some gratuitous advertising for the shop that did the work...
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_11.jpg">

And what nice work they did...

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/RS6%20sideskirts/RS6_Sideskirts_15.jpg">

And finally, home at the BD homestead!

Maybe he raised it a lil, so that he can still get a jack under those side-skirts...

I always thought those blades looked good on a 4.2, but the RS6 sides are the shiznitz
