Since this forum usually has good opinions - GPS question inside.....
...my sister is looking at an older A6 and wants to add a portable GPS system.
Because she also wants to use it other cars it can't be an in-dash.
What is the GPS of choice these days with decent graphics (ala Audi) without those funky 3d cartoonish displays but with good mapping and a fairly intuitive input?

Garmin or Magellan. The Garmin is smaller, the Magellan is the same as the Hertz NeverLost
if she rents cars regularly and familiarity is a consideration.
Magellan aims for yearly map and POI updates, and the latest costs $100. I'm sure Garmin does something similar, but haven't looked into it. The Magellan also has European maps available.

I'm buying one for myself; the Garmin Nuvi 350, which is very small, but also includes live traffic updates that can be used to have the unit route the driver around traffic jams. Not so essential if you don't live in an urban area, but in the LA area, if it works, it'll be a godsend...

I'm using Tomtom with my smartphone. The bluetooth GPS receiver...
is about the size of a zippo so I just unobtrusively velcro'ed it out of the way in the corner of the dash. That way, I don't have to carry an extra device or worry about thieves jacking my gps unit while I'm away from the car.
Cheers,

Also see the highly rated Garmin nuvi 660. Similar to the nuvi 360, but with a bit bigger 4.5" screen. http://gpsinformation.info/nuvi/660/660.html
The Garmin motorcycle model zumo 550 may also be of interest.
