This is for Boston Driver, or anyone else who might be able to help!
I'm late to THIS thread but have a similar (but reverse?) problem, and I REALLY liked the way Boston Driver laid out the solution above. Even I could understand and follow it (great pics!)

I've imported to Canada a '01 A6 2.7T and am now required to establish some Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to pass the Federal inspection. The dealer wants a whack of cash to re-wire the the whole lighting system, so I'm hoping there would be another simplier solution, perhaps similar to the one above. Seems to me that just 'ignition jumping' the fog lights 'on', or putting in a relay that turns the lights on when the engine is started would be kinda straight forward, even for me. Am I mistaken? or just naive?
I can't be the first guy to be doing this so is there anyone who has gone down the road before?
    Open for suggestions.
    Thanxs.....Bill
