Installation Kit For Nokia Digital Phone

Installation Kit For Nokia Digital Phone
Just received a call from the Parts Manager at my Audi dealership who told me that he received the long awaited installation kit for Nokia series 5/5/6 phones for the A6. The phone would sit on a holder with to the right of the radio and there would be a dual band antenna on the rear window. I believe there is a bumper mount antenna avaialble but he didn't know much about it, other than the fact that it would cost about $100.00 more. The phone would operate with the steering wheel buttons and the radio the same as the analog from the dealer. For Bose radio's there would be a speaker in the phone holder. I believe that it would operate through the car speakers in vehicles with non-Bose radio's.
The parts cost would be $443.25 and the installation labor cost is $240.00. He has one kit in-house and obviously has no experience with how well it works since they have never installed one.

Is there no shame.....??
Does spending $683 or worse yet, $783, on an install for a $75 phone seem a bit over the top folks?? On my A4 and 2.7T I had installed Nokia's CARK 91 into a ProFit mount (also side mounted at radio) for $250, all-in. OK, I'd admit I'd like to use the "thru the system" deal but for $400 more???- On a phone that's at best 2nd generation digital technology. And by the way - as a suffering Nokia stockholder, I should be encouraging this.

Re: Installation Kit For Nokia Digital Phone
Here they are:
- Phone Transmitter Kit; 1J0051438AH
- Speaker Kit (Bose); 000051437E
- Speaker Harness (Bose); 8D00514433
- Console Base For Phone; 4B1051601A1EJ
- Bumper Antenna; 000051506D
There's no part number assigned yet for the glass mount antenna.
I hope this helps. Seems like a lot of money, though, for a jury-rigged system.

Ditto! Who did they get to design this pathetic solution?
It would be cheaper, not to mention simpler and more elegant to use the existing hardware. If this is truely what their solution is, I'm going to wait for the 82XX solution that James Reedy is working on.

CARK91 1/2 integrated...
I have a Nokia CARK91 with a half-wave dual band glass-mount arial on the rear quarter-light window and a box speaker in the passenger footwell under the glove compartment. The cradle is mounted on a clip-on stand that attaches just to the left of the Concert unit without any trim damage (I'm RHD if you were wondering).
The Concert system has an input for a telephone, this is capable of muting the current audio input and sending in unamplified output from the CARK91 into the Concert's internal amplifier and there's a phone left/right speaker selection on the Concert. As I have BOSE, this means that I can't do this as the BOSE amp sits way back in the rear and the Concert won't pass the signal down to it (hence the box speaker under the dash).
I'm using the microphone included with the CARK91 as I don't think we get the integrated microphone in the UK (I can't see the grille for it). I've got the mic mounted with a velcro pad just in front of the centre sun visor.
The end result is I get a clean install with the phone sitting around Concert height just off the side of the dash and any calls mute the stereo. The only slight downside is that the volume needs to be quite high for the driver to hear it and the front passenger gets blasted a bit!
I didn't like the Audi system as I don't want the phone stored in the centre armrest (that's there to rest my arm on!) and the current location is nice and easy to see from the driver's position, and usable by the passenger as well, and the microphone is usable from both front seats as well.

That is way to much for a cellphone car kit. I personly would never install a kit in my car...
I work in the cell phone industry and see new phones, witch are not backwards
compatible, come out all the time. One of the biggest complaints from my
customers is having car kits that wont work with their new phones.
Maybe you should look into a portabel hands free kit, the
kind that plug into the cig. adapter. They don't sound as good as a fully
intergrated system, but you'ld be surprised as to how good some of them sound.
Shop around, there are alot of options out there.
Good Luck,

It's not much extra work
to integrate into the Bose audio system. I also installed the CARK91 into my 2.7T and it works great. Steering wheel controls would be nice but I'd still need the phone keypad to do most things anyway.
