PES supercharger for 99 A6 2.8 opinions?
Any opinions on this? It says it will give you 280 horsepower and 260 ft/lbs. of torque for a 2.8. I've heard it has adavantages over a turbo in that it is more reliable long term and gives instant power, but turbos are more fuel efficient.
Any opinions bad or good?

Well, head over here.....
Rob is the owner of the A4 with the PES supercharger. He frequents the Misc Model forum. I believe the kits are a little different between the A4 and A6 but nothing major. I think.

PES Supercharger Install

Re: PES supercharger for 99 A6 2.8 opinions?
I have some reservations about putting Supercharger. Supercharger puts more air into cilinder same as Turbo. But most of the turbocharged engines specialy designed for turbos. They are reiforced to accept more air and produce more power. So attaching supercharger to atmosphere engine will break engine in next 30-60K miles.
From fiscal point of view you will spend $5K on supercharger and ~$4-8K because your engine will die sooner. It may make sence to sell your 2.8 car any buy 2.7T for this extra money.
Am I wrong?

It's possible that it could reduce the life of the engine. Not sure.
As far as buying a 2.7T that would cost me about $15 k+ vs. $5k to get the supercharger, but still an option for the future.
thx.

A word of caution
You have a tip, right? Make sure you don't exceed the recommended torque limit, or you can blow the tranny. Seems to me that April posted on this a few weeks ago, but I can't find the details.

Installation is everything ! The fuel delivery system ( needs new injectors, regulator, etc )
is critical. Of course the ECU to drive the new assembly needs to be modified throughout the operating range. The air/fuel mixture and injector type need to be considered. Reason I say this, is that I have seen a few sub-standard installs of the PES system. The system itself ( basics ) seems good. For whatever reasons, poor fuel delivery solutions have resulted in washed out rings, etc.
When it is done correctly, the results are awesome !
If your car is Front Trak, I would keep the torque below 220lb ft. A QTR maybe 240lb ft ( stock is 207 ). 20% fudge factor is the most you could expect an engineer to allow for. The valve body in the trans is the weak link. Seems there is a different version for every engine/output.

I but one in my 1998 A6Q I like it. Install was not to bad. It pulls real nice off the line all the way to red line. It hits 130mph in no time. Thats is as fast as I have had up to. Looking to make it faster.
