Default V1 Valentine One with remote display: Installed Successfully!

I did the install with the remote display. The main unit is behind the mirror, not visible to the driver. The cord runs over to and inside the trim that covers the mirror wires.

The remote display is not hidden, but where I like it for optimum functionality: on the dash to the right of the driver's A-pillar. This minimizes the focus shift and glance-away angle, and lets the driver perceive it peripherally. The leftward position corresponds to the location of "bogeys" in oncoming traffic, on a median, or on the oncoming shoulder.

The install went smoothly. Popped off the fuse panel, then removed the lower dash trim based on the instructions at Teddy's RNS-E install directions at NSXjr's site (page 18 of http://www.nsxjr.com/ted/TED_RNS_E.pdf).

I used the V1 Direct Wire Power adapter (adhered Velcro to metal panel forward of large opening exposed by removal of fuse panel cover.) I first connected the ground spade (needed to be widened to fit) to the ground connection with the brown wires (see Teddy's image: http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/59076/fusebox20wiring.jpg).

I then used the V1 wire clamp connection to one of the wires connected to the "75x" connection indicated in the above picture. This required a pliers to clamp, and very firm pressure to install the spade connector into the hinge end (which is what keeps the clamp clamped.)

Some zip tying, and I was ready for the wire snaking. I started at the detector, figuring I might relocate or remove the remote display some day, without disrupting the main wire. A plastic orange peeler worked like a charm. I did file a bit of the interior of the mirror wire cover, to reduce the crosswise stiffener ribs. Poke, and prod, it all came together.

I then got the free (cut) end where I wanted it, and installed a phone jack using the tool and jacks just received from Radio Shack.

The remote was just as easy, and looks fine where it is. It has a temporary "visor" to shield it from the sun for better viewing, and I plan to replace this with an alcantara-covered shield, or something comparable.

The only fuss (besides spending 10 minutes looking for my crimper that was right beside me) was the lower right bolt to reinstall the lower dash panel. It took more than a little wiggling to find its hole.

I plan to do the ADR V1 setup http://audi.caughtbluehanded.com/ for displaying in the dash LCD display, but will still probably keep the remote display for added visibility.

I will install my RNS-E and XM in May, and intend to do the Bluetooth as well.

Thanks to all those who contributed to the reference material and past threads on this site.

One mod done, more to come!

Default Congrats...having a detector is a valuable tool for our cars...

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/AW%20sig%20pics/passport_display.jpg">

...this one has saved my A$$ several times over the last few months. The 4.2 just cruises so quietly, before I notice, I am well above 80MPH.

I have thought about the V1, especially with that concealed display that caughtbluehanded is developing.

Default All three of my cars are hardwired

My brother was being good this year, so I gave him a new V1 for Xmas. He liked it. I feel nekkid without a V1 in the car, even if I'm not going fast, but where I live it's a poice state. I live on an Air Force base, but the cops offbase are soooooo much more **** about speeding. All the money from tickets goes to the school system in my county, and I've helped little Joey get a kickass computer. I have many stories about the cops around here.

Default I guess you do not get thirsty in the car... I stick with above the mirror...

I got into it a while back with some people telling me about reduced range behind the tint, but after running multiple tests, my range is the same and even BETTER for rear radar (instead of being blocked by the driver and seats, it has a good line to the rear. I would love to install the mute on the dash though...

Default Do you lose some of the rearward detection mounting that so high???

it looks like the rear-facing eye on top of the unit would be blocked by the headliner.
