Helpful for those of us with aging 2.8s...

Funny you should post that...I spliced mine Tuesday night
I started my cam tensioner seal replacement Tuesday night and immediately snapped that breather line into 3 pieces. Kudos to the VAG engineers and their planned obsolescence. Today (right now as a matter of fact), I'm replacing the drivers side cam tensioner seals.
I haven't made it to an autoparts store yet for a new piece of hose, so this is what I came up with Tuesday night so we could drive the car yesterday.
In my box-o-tubing, I only had 6" piece of the reinforced stuff which fit nicely onto what Audi breather duct sections remained and a couple sections of clear vinyl. The 6" section became the 3 splices and vinyl in between. It all fits together very nicely, dispite it's looks.
As long as we're on the subject of brittle tubing, the red arrows point to all the inferior, crumbing vacuum lines I've replaced in the past 16 months. Fortunately, my box-o-tubing is well stocked with 15+ year old used Honda vacuum line I've collected over the years, which never gets brittle.
Sad to say, working on this car reminds me of a 1973 Ford Ranchero I once owned. Something unrelated will get broken while attempting to repair something else.

Yep, those lines dry out badly. I think it's because the cover traps in a lot of heat...
I never had this much problem with the cloth covered hose on my Corrado...
