Default Ok, how am i suppose to take out that mirror switch? Its crazy!

...tried to take it out thru the cupholder, and at one moment my finger got stuck, couldnt get it out for like 11-12 minutes! Man, it was hurting so bad i thought i'll have somedy cut the plastic. But then i thought ill better have some skin off then cut my baby-AUDI ! haha

Now, seriously, how do i get that switch out? I remember somebody posting that he had it out thru that cupholder, but it seems to be impossible. Others had it out thru the transmission console. Could you give me some more details on how to do it before my finger gets stuck for real! ;-o

TIA

P.S. If you know anybody who wants to sell his Bentley CD for my C5 2.7T, LET ME KNOW !!! PLEASE!

Default Just did this yesterday.....

OK,
REAL easy. Close your ashtray. I slid a pocket knife blade (you could use a puddy knife...need thin, stiff blade...not screw driver, too thick) FROM the rear of the car, into the seam of the trim behind your shifter. gently but firmly pry up once it's inserted. The trim will pop up/off. Then after raising it an inch or so, slid the trim TOWARDS the BACK of the car...there are two long plastic tabs that 'hook' under into the dash consol on the front of this trim. Once this is done, just lift it upwards out of the way. Reach under your mirror adjustment know with your finger and push upwards, the switch should pop up and out. Mind you there are two flat, metal spring clips on the switch housing, one front, one back. don't lose those!. The switch you bought from Audi (if you did!) is probably just the switch. The assembly you pop out is the switch pressed INTO a console housing. You must pop out the switch from this housing and replace it with the new one. You can use the same knife blade or whatever to slightly separate the old switch from the housing, pulling the switch at the same time down/out of the housing. Careful not to pry too hard on this 'housing' leg as if it snaps, just another piece to sh*t money to Audi parts counter for!.......good luck. Not hard....john

Default John, look at that pic. The hole by the Tip to the switch is so small i can barelly fit my finger...

...thru. There is no way i could get it out easily, i swear. I just tried. I was thinking to take off the whole console around the switch. But i dont want to brake anything and the thing doesnt seem to pop out that easily as well.

I dont even know what to do...

Thanks for your help!

OK, I have more room with the standard stick shift....we know it just pops out. can you use an allen wrench to snake under and leverage an upward force to pop it upward? or some other creative mechanics....perhaps one from the front and one from the cupholder...but just one good pop on one side of it is all that's needed. I'd hesitate to take the entire console off as well....

Not sure if I'm being clear, but using the allen wrench as a kind of pry bar, the wrench should be narrower than your smallest finger in diameter and has the 90 degree bend to to use as leverage to push/pop upward. If you can't get anything in, then I suppose you're going to have to pop the entire center console.

Hey,
I just opened it and looked up removal for the automatic configuration. All it says (after popping off, exposing what you've already done) is :

Carefully insert a screwdriver in the hole at right next to the two mounting bolts for the center console.

Lever out mirror adjustment switch -1- by pressing lightly using a screwdriver, as soon as the screwdriver touches the lower section.

So, it seems they just want you to slide a screw driver down the hole next to the two mounting bolts at that end of the console and once it hits the switch, just lightly pry upward. You should see the switch move and then pop up on the front side......I'd send you the page, but I can't seem to acrobat print it...but these are the two steps after removal of the console as you've already done.

Default ooo-o-o-Boy! hehe. Mmm. If you would just "PrtSc" the whole screen of yours(while in Bentley)...

...and if you could, post it, or send it to me via e-mail... Please. That would help so much.

my e-mail: louighi2004@yahoo.com

P.S. "PrtSc" - is a button you make a picture of your entire screen, nomatter what is on the monitor.

Thanx for the help Anyways!
