Electrical problem ....anyone else had this
Recently, while driving, my interior lights will come on and my dash display shows the driverside rear door ajar. I think there's a short somewhere....anyone else had this happen? It's a 2000 A6, 2.7T.

Does your 2000 still have door a switch/button in the frame?
It could simply need adjustment or replacement.
If there is no button then this all comes from the inside door handle. The door handle itself has plugs and circutry which is why they are so damn costly. You would have to open up the panel anc check the wiring out, etc.

Re: Does your 2000 still have door a switch/button in the frame?
I'll have to look, thx.....um, where?! I've worked on many a car, but not really this one...still kind of putting my toes in the water with this one! It's acting like a switch or sensor needs adjustment, or a short....not a mechanical or pending failure..unless of course the short fires up other wires ......

look around the door frame....
Older cars have a simple metal button that pushes in when the door is closed.
Audi no integrates all of this directly into the door handle. I don't know if 2000 is old style or not.

Re: look around the door frame....
no button switch.....looks like i have to take the door panel off and look at the wires to see if there is anything obvious! (or pay Audi to!).....figures, not to long after the warranty runs out.....how do they DO that !

YESS..multiple times.
I had the 2000 4.2Q in for service at least twice with Tischer BMW/Audi in Silver Spring, MD for this problem. The second time they ended up redoing a connection/welding it that was causing the problem.
Have your technician call George (Audi service tech writer) @ 301-679-4425NOSPAM (remove the NOSPAM) and ask what the problem is. They fixed it on Joy Binford's 2000 A6 4.2Q if he needs a reference.

Switch is actually integrated with the door catch mechanism...
... inside the door. There's a DIY fix article somewhere around - try a search on this site, or on Google (sorry can't remember where I saw it)
