RNS-E update: Part I
Ok....so I made some more progress in the past two weeks. Detailed pix will be out by the end of December. I promise!
Special thanks to Lee Hicks (NSX Jr) for his advice and consultation regarding the SAT install, climate control faceplate and overall Audi electronics knowledge. He certainly trumps me in a lot of areas. Thanks Lee!!
1) RNS-E installed and fully functional. Check!! (Gee...that was easy!)
2) Climate control faceplate from 2002+ A6 to match color of RNS-E. Check!!!
3) OEM Sirius tuner installed...and fully functional. Check!!! (still have to call Sirius and finalize the subscription price. However, I get about 20 stations for free as is...so I've been "milking" those for the past two weeks)

4) Custom Phatbox and SAT tuner cable (so I can run both at once)...installed and fully functional. Check!!!! (This is a very easy cable to build..and will only cost you about $50 in parts from crutchfield and audi parts dept)
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/32631/dscf0266.jpg">
5) Dietz 1417 A/V interface for Blaupunkt ME3 (DVD player and TV tuner). Check!!! (I still need to power up my aftermarket amplified TV antenna and custom video-in-motion switch - all minor stuff; Can you guess where my switch will go??)
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/32631/dscf0275.jpg">
I just need to button up my Moto IHF1000 BT kit, tiptronic steering wheel and install that OEM submarine antenna and I'll be done.....for now......
Some of my favorite features of the RNS-E (keep in mind, I haven't even read the owners manual yet):
A) Map display in 3D mode. Feels like a freakin' video game!!!
B) Having one list of 30 memory listing for radio (FM/AM ....and Sirius!!!)
C) All the extra points of interest (POIs)
D) Navigating by telephone number (did that once...and it took me to a nearby pizza place).
E) The display for Sirius (I can sort the stations by category or just by station#...pretty damn'd cool!)
...there are probably about 100 other things that I could list that make this thing a kick *** setup.
As always, see this link of mine from navplus.us...as I keep it updated with all the current developments/findings that pertain to the C5 community. 99% of your questions can be answered by reading this post (and the embedded links).
Also, need I remind everyone that Christmas is upon us...and you shouldn't forget....to get yourself something nice for yourself.<ul><li><a href="http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1003">your quest...starts here....</a></li></ul>

Not that you will, but if you trash your headlight switch/cover, I have a spare laying around. :)
BTW, it looks GREAT!! I briefly demo'd a fellow AWers RNS-E in his B7 S4 this past summer...VERY cool; I liked the SD(?)-card-slots-behind-the-faceplate feature. Of course, I didn't even get to scratch the surface, with respect to the unit's capabilities, in the 5 minutes of tinkering. :P

Teddy, So if i install the rns-e on my 2000.. Its going to bulge out/not fit without that new climat
e control faceplate? from a 2002+ right?
Blast... maybe i can put some metal trim around it.
Toss some pictures of that install, id love to see it!

No, it does not bulge out, but it will not match the finish of your pre-2002 climate control...
the plastic faceplate has a bit more greyish tone than the deep black of the 2001 and earlier. It is simply for appearance.
