Default Mystery check engine light

It came on while I was parked, idling after having driven about a mile. Still on the next morning. And the morning after that. Then, after driving about 10 miles, again parked and idling, it went out and stayed out.

Rather odd, is the DTC code stored so they can check it when it goes in for 2nd service? Service will include: fluid leak above PS reservoir, check engine light, pulsing brakes.

My MIL came on about two weeks ago with the same scenario went out 2 days later then came back on during normal highway driving and has been on ever since. The dealer said it is ok to drive and made a QUICK appointment for me to bring it on MAY 17
I love Audi Service

Default What I love

Well besides my local Audi service dept, Is I Occasionally will drive collegues to lunch or meetings and they all say how nice my car is then when driving they happen to glance ove to the instument cluster and notice a bright orange light with a thunder bolt through the engine "Well that can't be good, how old is this car?" or "That's why I bought a Lexus!" and I know that the light is probably some minor sensor that almost has nothing to do with the driveability of the car (I am hoping)

WHAT would be nice is if Audi incorporated the MIL with the Systems check so you would know what is wrong from the graphic display just like I know when the door is open or coolant is low.

Default Mine has been on 3 times....

1 - O2 sensor
2 - Gas cap off for 1 day (took another day to reset itself.
3 - Temp sensor, threw off lots off stuff. Replacing it also fixed my rough idle.

ps: Since my temp guage went to "zero" at difffernt times, at first they could not "replicate the probelem" - so I took a picture of it pegged to the left and handed it to the service adviser as proof. Moral of the story = be very prepared before you go to the dealer. Search for posts with you problem, or post a question. It makes the service much more efficient.

Default everybody is fighting the problem now

It's due to OBD II.

I heartily agree that it should be able to display the codes as text without a special tool. The 1997+ C5 Corvette can do it, a friend of mine uses this feature when his check engine light comes on (more often than he would like). As you say, at least when his comes on he can find out what the problem is.

I had the problem once and a call to the dealer indicated that most of the time it is caused by a gas cap that was not turned until the "clicking" sound is heard. The light went off after a day and all is well. Hope your problem is that easily fixed.

Mine came on too some time back. It came on for a bit, then later went out. And about after and hours drive, the idle was rough. Turned out it was an oil leak in the front cam seal. The leak was interfering with the cam position seal.
