Default I just read up on the Nav+ RNS-E and have to admit I'm damned tempted!

the instructions look so easy! There has to be a catch? Can this really be this easy to install and does it in fact have 100% full functionality? I mean damn, someone talk me out of this! Advice welcomed!

Just the other day I was over at the dealership and saw (for the first time) the new RNS-E Nav units. I thought to myself, "damn, that looks sexy and I wonder if it could be retrofitted to our cars?"<ul><li><a href="http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70">RNS-E Installation pictures</a></li></ul>

Default I'm seeing prices all over the place. Plus, what's the diff between an EU with US SW or US only?

Anyone know a good going rate for these things? I'm seeing $1200 on EBAY, on up towards $1850. Then, just a few posts down I see that someone saw one go for the high $600's?

Default guess what I did last week :) :p

<center><img src="http://users.skynet.be/bk316426/IMG_7764.JPG"></center><p>
went from single to double din,

took about 5 hours of labor to make the switch.
The unit itself took like 10 minutes ( all u need to do is pull a speed wire from behind your instrument cluster and you are good to go. )

Can-bus doesn't work with my 2002 A6 very weird.

DEFINETLY worth every Euro. ( i still need a new A/C unit, doesn't fit perfect. ( the single din version is slightly different )

Cost was 1400 euro for the RNS-E + another 420 Euro ( to make the double din mod look good )

go for it !

It would be GREAT to have the RNS-E, BUT don't you lose the 6-CD changer? That would suck.

Default or you could....

- add a trunk CD changer

or

- add a Phatbox (see my sig)

or

- Use the MP3 cards for 8GB worth of music

or..

- burn MP3's on a CD-R and play 700MB worth of music in the RNS-E (Nav DVE will need to be ejected)

or...

- play a regular audio CD (Nav DVD will need to be ejected).

Default Good suggestions, EXCEPT...

...that I also have XM, and I understood from your posts and info as well as the NAV+ forum that you can't have BOTH a changer and XM.

As far as ejecting the NAV DVD to play music, that's an unacceptable compromise to me.

As far as using the SD car slots - that occurred to me, and I have multiple cards, but the big cards are still pretty pricey.

Yes, I WANT IT ALL!!!! ;-)

What to do?

Default not true...you can have both the OEM SAT tuner and cd changer/pbox...

the sat tuner has an audio pass through. Thanks to Lee Hicks for figuring this one out.

So YES, I will be able to run an OEM Sirius (or XM) tuner and still keep my OEM PhatBox (or trunk-mounted cd changer or trunk-mounted ipod icelink thingy).

see this thread..all answers can be addressed. You'll need to spend about $50 on parts from crutchfield.com and audi to make it work.

Caveats:
1) if you don't have the round 13 pin cd changer harness in the trunk (not found in 2003-2004 models) then you will need to do a little extra rewiring and spend another $100 for the OEM cd changer cable (see my sig for my pbox install).

2) you will need to buy an upgraded XM tuner module to work with the RNS-E. They are about $350 from the dealer. You then sell yours for $300 on ebay etc.

Bottom-line: If you "WANT IT ALL" and you want it have that OEM look and feel...you'll have that OEM look and feel.

Again, read the quicklinks in the navplus.us forum...spend the 90 minutes and you will have your answers.<ul><li><a href="http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=837">http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=837</a</li></ul>
