The mandatory clear corner tool as promised...
Heres the answer you guys: a_o_smith, wingslax, projekt_c5.
The tool you see below allows you to reach the infamous "third bolt". Purchasing this tool allows you to do the CC mod by yourself. You dont have to pull the bumper. You remove the two screws on top and the third one with this extra long T-30.
I have used this tool on both our A6's (xenon and halogen). The tool cost 30 dollars shipped, but you also get 5 other torx sizes.
After the headlight is removed you can just pop it in the oven. Any more questions just email me.
This tool should allow all A6 owners to do the mod with the greatest of ease.
You can purchase it at this website ( no affiliation)...

can you do this mod without putting it in the oven?
Don't some people just chip away at the amber piece?
Do you need to drill a hole in it?
As far as I can tell, there are a few different ways of doing it.

yes there are many ways...
but I think this is the easiest.
1st. Why chip away when you can take out the whole amber piece?
2nd. If you do it by the oven method you do not have to drill any holes.
I think you have been reading the " clear corner mod for dummies", that is possible route. But there are some uneccessary steps. You can also use a heat gun instead of putting them in the oven. But the oven/ heat gun method allows you to open up the housing and take out the amber piece in its entirety.

are you saying you "bought" it to use and then bring back because
you are cheap? A heat gun is something you will use over the years. Surely you have friend that had one you could borrow and return.

I used a hair dryer, no need for even a heat gun, it worked just fine....
and I didn't need to remove em from the car either, just enough wiggle room to get to the clamps under the headlamp housing, popped the clamps, hit it with heat, and voila, it was apart.

Oven works fine...
You aren't heating the assy to the point that you'll melt the plastic. The lens is held on with some tar-like stuff that gets soft and gooey at 200+ F. I heated mine in 250 oven for 3 minutes and it came apart fine.
Don't fear the oven!!!
