Seat back memory problem found and fixed
I was having a problem with the driver's side seat back memory function in my 2000 A6 2.7T. Basically the memory function wouldn't store a recline value any more reclined than a certain position (which was way too far forward as far as my wife and I were concerned). After a bit of hunting around in the the Bentley service manual and a couple of minutes with my VAG-COM I solved the problem.
There is a stored value in the seat memory controller that prevents the seat memory from storing a position that is so far back as to squish the rear passenger. Somehow this value had been reset in my car and so what I thought of as a reasonable seat angle the car thought was too reclined. The procecedure to fix this is on pages 01-168 to 01-170 of the first edition of the service manual (if you have this problem and don't have the service manual email me at marcos @ panix.com and I'll send you the instructions).
