Brake Warning Light still illuminated after brake job
My brake warning light started to illuminate steady a few weeks ago and today I had the rotors and pads replaced on my '99 A6 Avant. To save some $$ I had the job done at a local auto shop with aftermarket parts (Duralast). The brakes feel great but the brake warning light is still illuminated and the shop did not know how to get rid of the light. ??
Is there a computer reset feature that must be performed to rid the light? Or, do aftermarket brake parts prevent the light from working correctly?

Re: Were the new pad without wear sensor connectors?
I am attempting to contact the auto shop to get that answer. Unfortunately they are closed for the day and I won't know until tomorrow am.
From the various threads on this website dealing with the brake warning light, I can only surmise that the pads did not have the sensors.
Now what to do?

From other posts, there are three primary causes...
1. There is a short in the wiring. Check the wires from the brake sensors (mine were worn, and caused the two wires to touch, causing the light to come on. A piece of duct tape fixed it).
2. Brake fluid is low. Check your brake fluid reservoir.
3. Connectors to the sensor wires could be loose (not sure why this might cause the light to come on).
4. (Doesn't apply to you, obviously) The brake pads are worn.
And no, you do not need to reset the computer to get rid of the light, just fix the short that is somewhere. That's all I can think of.

If there were no connectors you have to go back at the shop and ask them to bypass the connectors.
Most guys here who upgraded brake pads and have no connectors usually short-circuit the ends to permanently complete the circuit. Easy fix. If connectors were present-look what Peccavis says above.

this is what Carol Wong did(pic#6 and text above it)
