Default So, key fobs can just die??

My key fob stopped working a week or so ago. My wife's works fine. I put in new batteries and did the various 'synching' techniques found in the archives and in my owner's manual... even did a variation of a 'rain dance', hopping on one foot while making a loon call...

Nothing works. Still a dead fob...

Time to buy one on eBay... and what do dealers charge to 'program' them?

Thanks....

I fried one. Luckily they gave me a new one under warranty.

Default do you have any pics of the...

'rain dance', hopping on one foot while making a loon call. Sounds like a good addition to Stoney's Links.

Default You can program it yourself in 2 minutes.

I had a FOB which, even after receiving a new battery, was intermittent at best. They are commonly sold on ebay and I picked one up for $20.

Programming the new FOB is VERY simple, follow the link below (can be found in Stoney's Links, too). HTH.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/138999.phtml</a

The programming is completely within your ability. This is the handout I got from my dealer when I got a duplicate (blank ebay purchase) cut. I can email the full size file if you want it, AW downsized this one.

Default That's the opposite of what I got from the dealer (scan above)

Of course I could be all wrong with only 2 months of Audi ownership under my belt.

Default You're right, I didn't even read that post....

...I locked the door via the FOB (not the inside lock button like that post says). IIRC, I held the button for about 5-7 seconds, then hit it again to 'lock it in' and it worked like a charm.
Just check to make sure the other FOB still works, otherwise you'd have to reprogram it in the 2nd position (or 1st if you programmed the first key in the 2nd position...if that makes sense). :P

Default It was my lucky day I guess - FREE

I turned on the charm for the parts lady, and assured her that I would be back for all my Audi parts needs.

She took the key back to the glassed in room behind the counter and let the guy back there cut it. It took him less than a minute, so I don't think he removed it from the fob. Maybe he's really fast driving the roll pin out & in...
