Get an independant analysis of your Audi before your warranty expires!
I urge each and every one of you to get an independant analysis of your car before you make your final in-warranty visit.
This is what The Black Forest found on my 2001 A6 2.7T today:
* heat shields on downpipes are rattling and should be re-secured.
* control arm bushings are slightly worn.
- wheel bearings OK.
* oil leak from turbo oil return lines at upper oil pan - need to be re-sealed.
- all CV joints appear to be in good condition.
- all power train mounts are secure and appear to be free of cracks or damage at this time.
- no transmission leaks are detected at this time.
- front brake pads are at 80% and rotors are in good condition.
- rear brake pads are at 35% and rotors are in good condition.
- found battery level low and corrected.
- charging system verified - charging at 14.15v
* outer tie rod-ends are torn.
- found hoses on intercooler output needed adjustment of clamps and corrected.
I also had an oil change and had them service my Forge valves.
Total cost $137.59 (my oil and filter).
Anyone want to venture a guess at how much the "*" items will cost the warranty to rectify?
I still have about 3K miles to go before 50K and will make an appt. for these items in a couple of weeks.
Stay tuned.

That is a GREAT idea! Mine is at 49k right now...
and before I hit 50k (when Audi Certified Pre-owned coverage begins), I am going to do the same thing at a local indy shop right down the street from work.

Yessir... my warr. expired last Sat. & the pre-expir. check paid off easily
Though in the end the dealer even caught a couple of things we didn't (though we were not doing a flyspeck inspection, just looking at some usual suspects).
We found:
-- Leaking trans. output shaft seal
-- leaking cam seals
-- poss. rear diff. leak
-- thin r. brake pads/rotor
Dealer concurred on all that, plus they found:
-- torn tie rod end boots
-- valve cover gasket leak
-- ? one other item I don't recall?
In any case, my one hr. labor at my friends' shop was well worth it and I'm guessing the 50k warranty work was well over $2,000...
I was very satisfied with the dealer's (Audi of Alexandria) thoroughness & the way they handled it.
cheers,
Jon

Absolutley , Also will help with extended warrenty claims
Just had my indi mech do a tune up and he checked the code on my check engine light problem and he thinks it is a 02 sensor, also last time there we noticed the left side CV boot leaking. Since i have a extended warrenty it will go back to the dealer to get the work done.
Allways a great Idea to find a indi mechanic even if you are still under factory or aftermarket warrenty ( Which is a MUST with these cars) I have just about recouped the cost of the warrenty and I still have almost three years left and 45000 miles . Bumper to Bumper and I have not had any policy changes like Audis warrenty. So far so good .

Not a productive approach...
When I made the appointment I told them that I'd looked the car over recently (True, I did it w/ my friend who owns the indie shop) and we saw the following items that I'd like them to look at and confirm whether there's a problem.... They were totally cool about it and just noted them on the list (I knew these items would make it more than a one day appointment so told them I wanted to let them know in case it helped them with scheduling).
They did that and also found a couple of things we weren't specifically looking for...
