2.8 30v 90.000 miles full tune up and timing belt done (small write up and impressions)
Ingredients:
1- ECS tuning ultimate timing belt kit, also changed bad ECT and fresh coolant (plus tensioner additional, since not included in kit) installed by KDM tuning.
2- New bosch plugs and wires
3- One can of BG44K
4- One oil change castrol full synthetic 5W40
5- New brake fluid.
6- Clean K&N and cleaned MAF
If you lack the tools, the patience and the skills, I do advise that you leave the timing belt kit install to a professional. Dealers in the tri state ask for a lot of money labor wise for doing the timing belt and water pump. Good independent mechanic or tuners will do the work at a more reasonable price. I was quotes 3 months ago 1600 dollars by a dealer in NY (no names I am tired of blasting dealers).
KDM tuning boxed the old parts for me. I was thinking about taking some close up shots of all the parts to illustrate the wear after 90.000 miles. Might be a useless post but then again I have seen worse on this board.
New plugs are easy. I did it 2 years ago and if you hesitate follow Kris Hansen write up on the topic. Wires are as easy as well and frankly do make a difference.
Having run different injection cleaners in the past, I finally located the famous BG 44 K. Only ****.........I don't know what they put in that thing but the car is on steroids. That weekend, I went to Cold Spring NY from NYC at let's say speed well above what was posted in order to make that thing circulate a little faster and burn some deposits.
Oil change is my third one was Castrol full synthetic 5W40. I always ran Mobil 1 5W30 until 6 months ago when I changed to Castrol, I know most of this board swears by Mobil1 but believe me the car stills talks to me when I give it Castrol (-:
Bleeding the brakes was done with a buddy who had a bleeder for his Lexus. Very easy indeed. I don't why I waited that long to do so. The pedal feel is solid and the brake modulation is much improve and on top of it no more brake shuddering (and I thought it was the rotors....) Speaking of which I have EBC sports rotors up front, Zimmerman in the back with EBC green pads all around.
Cleaning the K&N is cake and yes I did not re oil it like a mad man. I t dried and did not drip oil. MAF cleaning was done with Electronic cleaner technique.
Now let me put it this way. THE CAR ROCKS. No hesitations , smooth and linear. Something has drastically changed whether I am on the highway or stuck on the west side highway. Oil temp has never been that low. New thermostat and probably burning off carbon deposits as well as fresh coolant may have done it. It is always on 200 and pushes slightly toward 225 when going 70mph. In the past it was always at 225 or higher. I can't remember the car ever running those temps when I bought it at 12.000 miles.

oil temp will vary depending on oil weight.
If you run extremely thin oil you will alway see low temps due to minimal heat transfer (not necessarily a good thing).

BK 44 in Piermont. Gerhardt's auto 8 dollars or so (read)
5050 piermont ave 845-359-5900
They carry the full line of BG products as well as Amsoil full synthetic.
I will get to the pics eventually but I need to get to a camera first (-:
I also tried the BG MOA oil treatment, in my case it made the oil thinner and made the lifters noisy

Some questions...
1. Why would bleeding the brakes eliminate shuddering? Did you replace the brake fluid too?
2. WHat kind of plugs and wires did you buy? and how much? I'm guessing wires can be pretty costly, no?
3. Have you considered using M1 0-40? Didn't know you can get Castrol synthetic 5-40.
Thanks.
