Default Harbor Freight has a nice aluminum one - but remember most jacks have a max

rating of 3000lbs. Fine for jacking up one corner, but make sure to use good jack stands.

We've had our Harbor Freight for several years and it is used extensively at the track. No issues.

See it here

one little word of advice...don't haul it around in your trunk!!! I made bad mistake when I was twenty..forgot it was in there and took on a Porsche on a curvy road...dents from the inside out!! As Desi said to Luci, I had some "esplaining to do" but hey I was 6 months pregnant! ha

Default The Harbor frieght aluminum jacks (from China) are great for occassional use

I use one for my race car at the track. They do, however, tend to have limited life spans. If transporting the jack is not a problem, then I would get a better quality jack which will last you nearly a life time. I have had my Hein Werner jack for 25 years and it still works fine. I just bought an AC jack (Danish)for my shop from American Service Equipment which can be found on the Web.Beaultiful quality and very smooth. Their jacksstands are also primo quality.

Default Ditto on the Harbor Freight -- good value.

I have 3 hydraulic jacks:

- a old Sears beast that has been dead reliable but not very portable

- a mini floor jack that I bought from Kragen/Shuck's/Checker that came in an emergency kit they were selling. Came in a toolbox about the size of a medium picnic cooler with a compressor and flashlight -- I threw jumpers and a small socket set in for roadtrips, but it is bulky. Should still be available for between $20 and $30.

- The JC Whitney scissor jack linked below. I don't trust the OEM jack at all and this is small enough to carry in the car full time.

If you're really not going to do much/any work on the car yourself due to no garage, etc. the scissor jack might suffice. It's light duty for sure, but under the right conditions it serves its purpose.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/storeId-10101/p-579/c-10101/catalogId-10101</a

Default I looked at the Sears aluminum jack and bought the same jack from Harbor freight for

$89 on sale.Sears' jack is also made in China. HF runs internet specials from time to time. Also, the salesman at Sears told me that their jacks do not have a lifetime warrantee - only 1 year. Their Craftsman hand tools come with a lifetime warrantee.
