Default Repair costs on Tiptronic failure

Automatic trans still works fine but the Tip is electically dead - still works mechanically but no change to display when pushed over, forward or back. I assume I have a dead chip or control box. Any experience out there on what this will cost to fix?

Default Arent there magnets under the tip shift gate that tell the LCD to display the correct gear?

So everything is functioning, (the tiptronic and auto trans) except the ability to display it correctly?

Default My tip did not downshift consistently - both display and mechanically. Had switch replaced for

$500 - under extended warranty - whew! Should clarify that the automatic worked fine, so nothing wrong with tranny.

LCD does not change and there is no tiptronic functionality. the car just continues to drive in AUTO 'D' mode.

Sounds like your problem was the precursor to mine. My warranty is up. Was the $500 your "out of pocket" for a larger cost or was that the total?

Default I had a similar problem with mine, here is how I got it fixed...

The problem usually comes from the small magnet piece that is placed in the black rubber cover that moves with the shifter lever. You need to remove the chrome cover that goes around the shifter. Inside the cover there is a board that has the hall effect sensors used for TIP position. The black rubber / plastic cover around the shifter (that moves back and forth with the shifter) has a pocket (on the left side of the shifter rod) that houses a magnet(about 3x3x8 mm). All you have to do is find the magnet and put it back in place. The dealers usually replace the switch board (that sits inside the chrome shifter cover) but I bet 90% of the failures come from the magnet that comes out of its housing. It is relatively common problem if you have the car detailed and they use high pressure air to blow the dust off or use excessive pressure to clean the rubber cover.
