Spark Plug Change on 2000 A6 4.2 (ART)
Searched the forums and Bentley disc for something on this but did not find much, so...I decided to jump in and get my hands dirty. Hopefully these pics help someone else who is thinking about doing themselves. Really very easy with the right tools......

The 20" extension with flex-head ratchet is perfect setup for both coilpack bolts and plug removal/install. Just swap the swivel/10mm socket with plug socket/locking extension combo. You will have plenty of room to work and will not lose the plug socket in the hole.
First, remove the engine cover/s, air duct intake and shield to expose engine....This is where the ratcheting screwdriver comes in handy

Once they are out of the way, the coilpacks will be partially accessible on both sides. The driver's side looks like this. To provide better access to packs/plugs remove reservoir..again the ratcheting screwdriver comes in handy..

With the tank out of the way you have clean access to the 10mm bolts on the coilpacks. First use the medium blade screwdriver to unlock wire connectors from coilplacks. Place blade in forward slot of connector, turn gently and listen for a click before you try pulling on connector. You will have to remove wire connector to access spark plugs.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/75223/plug3.jpg">
This is what the coilpack looks like when removed. Remove the wire connector, then the 2 10mm bolts and just pull the pack toward you and set aside (you may want to use deep 10mm socket to remove last few threads by hand). There, hiding deep in the hole is the spark plug. Get in there with the 20" extension-5/8" socket combo and get that puppy out. I usually like to remove last few threads and start first few on new plugs by hand. Just remove the ratchet and hand turn the extension. Less chance of cross-threading the plugs.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/75223/plug4.jpg">
Finish up all four and jump to the passenger's side which will look like this....Follow the steps below to again provide access to packs/plugs. I love the positioning on the rear clip for the air cleaner cover. The homemade hanger tool will be needed to reattach clip(the bend in the end is key).
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/75223/plug5.jpg">
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/75223/plug6.jpg">
This is what you will have. Follow same procedure as before (change the air filter).
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/75223/plug8.jpg">
Note: When you lift the filter box out of the way it may dislodge hose from back of engine. Don't forget to check this. If it did come loose use the nutdriver with 7mm socket to reattach clamp. Also, I did not have access to a torque wrench..just went by touch.
So, there you have it. Hope it was not too painful a read for the more mechanically advanced members of the forum.
I used NGK Platinum (BKR6EQUP/3199)Plugs. Vagged it when finished (all clear)and took it for a nice spin. Feels good. The plugs I removed were Bosche with the Audi rings on them..looked original (56k). Feels good to DIY...Man, do I love this car.

I remember when 6 spark plug changes took maybe, 12 minutes with one ratchet and an extension. how times have changed. The dealer will do mine.
