the magazines always complain about understeer in Audis. Isn't understeer a function of lost grip? If so, wouldn't a well driven Audi then be the vehicle least likely to understeer, unless pushed beyond its limit? Someone please explain...
Or is everyone else just afraid to admit Quattro is real, and is the only way forward. Forward, not sideways sliding thru a corner, forward.

Steady state vs. dynaminc turning...
A vehicles steady state cornering (read: skidpad) tells little about it's real world handling. The skidpad test is a timed event, not a physiclly measured force. BTW, some of the highest skidpad numbers are achieved in a rear wheel drive car powersliding around the 700ft circle

The only time our noseheavy AWD's have an advantage is ...
during full throttle corner exit. That's a good time to have an advantage, but in every other situation (including steady state cornering) we're slower. The ideal configuration in the real (but dry) world is probably RWD, a 40/60 weight distribution, and fat rear tires.

Weight Distribution revisited
