Default Help - how to move the inside mirror from windshield

Hi,

My '99 A6 window have been tinted, but the windshield has not been completed. I want shop man to tint windshiled about 4" - 5" strip film only. The shop man told me he can't move the inside mirror from windshield. He don't want to screw up the windshield or the inside mirror. Should I go to the dealer to do it or I can DIY?

If anyone know how to move the inside mirror away from windshiled, please let me know. Your info is very important for me.

Thanks!

Default Very easy DIY...

simply remove the cover to exposed the wiring (for heated/compasss mirror if you have it), it is the rearward half of the neck. Just pops off with a small screwdriver. Then disconnect the wiring block, again using a small screwdriver helps. Then simply grab the neck so that you will have leverage with your thumb and rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise and VOILA, it should come off. I did this for my compass mirror install...no wrench needed.

Default Yes, that has good pics. Don't worry about pliers, not needed.

Default No, the spoiler is OEM BMW...

that is perfectly shaped and curved for the A6 trunk. The cheap replicas on ebay require a bit of bending, and others here have posted issues with the adhesive giving out and the ends popping up. My take, go OEM if you can, about $150 unpainted from BMW.

Don't remove the "badge" on the windshield...just twist the mirror housing 90 degrees...

Default I don't think you want to mess with the mirror mount...

you might consult a local auto glass shop that does windshields and ask them.

Good luck!
