Details of Clearcorners today.....
We first started out by removing the bellypan like everyone else, moving onto the torque screws at the front of the bummper after removing the lower grills.
Turns out we removed everything necessary and the bumper wouldn't budge. Not an inch, yes we also hit the screws that bolt the fender liner to the headlamps.
Well, I was not to be turned away damnit!!! So we removed the 3 bolts from the headlights, and that gave us enough rooom to get to the clamps that hold the headlamp lens to the headlamp housing.
At this point we were able to get the clamps off (4 of em per headlamp), heated up the headlamp assembly, and pulled the lenses off (came apart very easily).
I used a pair of long nose pliers to just crack off the amber tabs leaving the entire amber piece whole (that way I can reinsert the amber piece with a dab of epoxy when I decide to trade the) car in). Cleaned up the inside of the lenses, applied some black silicone to the seals, pressed the lenses back in place, reheated with the heat gun, reattached the clamps, reheated with the heatgun, bolted the 3 screws back in on each side.
Put the car back together in about 10 minutes, rolled it off the ramps and that was it.
One thing to mention however, is that on the inner side of each headlamp on the 4.2's there's a type of socket and arm. The arm extends from the bottom of the headlamp and needs to be pried out of the socket to set free in the inner side of the headlamp assembly.
Like a shmuck, I didn't get any pictures of the process, but please forgive me as I had about 1 1/2 hours to get the job done, get home, shower up and get to work at noon.
All in all, on at least a 2001 4.2, the only things that really need to removed are the 3 main bolts per headlamp, pry loose the arm and socket on the inner sides of the headlamp, remove the clamps on the top and side, and the two underneath (which become accessible).
NOTHING OTHER THEN THE HEADLAMPS NEED TO BE REMOVED!!! And they don't even need to come out completely, only enough to gain access to the clamps on the bottom of the lens.

Good job, the bumper requires a LOT of force to unclamp, a LOT...
...the ball joints are necessary for the leveling to aim properly, and so the housing seats in properly, a bitch, I know.
True, you could very well remove the lense once they are out enough to remove the clamps, I had'nt though of that.
You didnt scratch the chrome eyebrows did ya?
Good job, looks nice now, don't it

No scratches on the chrome eyebrows under the lamps....
wasn't even a factor I was worried about actually. Didn't seem like that was going to be a problem.
Yeah, looks so much better, so much cleaner now. Kindof like the refreshing look the back of the car has right after ya get done debadging it and step back and take a look at it. Just simply "refreshing."

Re: Details of Clearcorners today.....
Does this mod apply to 2002> 4.2 A6s as well? I called some company and they said that the 4.2 HID lights are different and and you need to mod the whole fixture rather than just the lens. It was different for any model other than the 4.2.
Was that TRUE/FALSE???
