Default Was in a "Mod" kinda mood recently...

In addition to the usual engine, transmission, suspension and exterior cosmetic mods I've been obssessing over since I got this car, I decided to do a few interior ones as well. First, I was sick and tired of looking at my scratched up, nicked up, fingerprinted no longer shiny chrome gateshift lever so I decided to completely disassemble it and sand it out. Rather than go with a shiny finished product the second time around, I went with the "brushed" look. Pictures don't really do it justice but it looks pretty cool. Started with a pretty rough 120 grain sander and progressively worked my way to 0000 steel wool to get a super smooth finish while retaining that brushed look. The nice thing about it now is it doesn't show dirt, scratches, fingerprints, smudges - nothing!

Next up was to premanently mount and hardwire my GPS unit. I didn't want it interfering with anything on the dash - cupholder, stereo, etc... and had to make certain I worked around the passenger airbag. Found a nice spot on the dash that doesn't interfere with anything and avoids passengers knees as well. Yes, it involved drilling through my dash wood trim, but hey, you ruin it, you go buy more. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Only one last lingering issue and that's my stupid sticking idle issue. No one can figure it out and it looks like I might swap out the throttle body to see if that fixes it. Other than that, time to think of some more mods!

Thanks. Pretty easy actually once you thought it all out.

The gearshift surround is definitely unusual. Did you put a clear coat on it so it won't corrode?

Ah yes, agree and that's going to take more time, but I'm up for the challenge!

Default I didn't. Aluminum, in a controlled environment, should be ok. But, I'll watch it closely!

Any ideas on a nice protectant?

Default Now I was under the impression it is plastic with a metallic finish?

...and not 100% metal, or Aluminum for that matter.

BUT

Since were both locals, would you like to help me do the same to mine?

Let me know, I have a few scratches myself and with the Carbon trim, its sort of an eye sore.

The GPS looks great, as expected. So, I take it even the magnificant Doug could not track down te culprit for the idle? Bummer.

Let mme know if you are around and about to help me on the shift gate. I could not see how to release the 4 tabs which hold it when I did the Carbon trim mod (I was plannong on repainting the entire shift gate at one time but passed).

Thanks Dave.
