Default ...Nice install Paul........

...Wouldn't it be cool if the "nice British lady" could coach us on the proper apex for cornering on road courses!

Enjoy!

Default Nice work Phil! The install wasn't that bad.....and "groundbreaking"..more thoughts on Nav+....

It only took us two nights of (5 hours each) to install the GPS, TMC/CAN, entire v60 HF kit, [slightly modified] existing blitzsafe adaptor for the Pioneer XM, and change a few pins behind the Sym II HU. Not too shabby...seeing how I spent two months researching my own install before I pulled the trigger. If you've done your research, you'd know that this install is virtually plug/play...you just need to add 5-9 wire taps behind your existing HU to complete it. Very simple.

Sure, Phil spent $1700...but these were all new parts...not used from ebay.de. On the low-end...one could probably spend closer to $800 for the same setup..and not get the same "piece of mind".

If you think about what the regular US-based Nav option cost (roughly $1400)...you get a lot more for your $300......it's just something that you need to see and experience in person.

Other considerations for those interested:
1) Nav+ won't work with the OEM XM units
2) Nav+ does not have a CD player up front (you either need the 6 disc OEM trunk changer...or a blitsafe adaptor and/or a Nexxtel interface..see below)
3) Nav + DOES work with OEM Onstar (joshua from the allroad forum installed a Nav+ in his 2003/4 allroad)
4) Depending on your region of the country, Nav+ AM reception might be an issue (see the TVwiz site for details)
5) Yes..this is an OEM part, so it won't impact your existing factory warranty. If your car is still under factory warranty, the dealer probably won't replace it if it breaks/malfunctions. FYI - I believe the replacement cost for a Sym I/II HU is $300-$500 (at the dealer).

As for the install, I am working on completing a lenghty writeup (most of my pix are already posted on the Audi Nav+ Yahoo forum..click on "files" and you'll see two zip files) on how to install a Nav+ in any 1998-2004 A6/S6/RS6/allroad. Some of the wiring considerations change from pre-2002 to post-2002 MY because of the CAN-bus protocal (see the tvwiz site for details)...but they are really minor. I have been circulating draft copies of this write-up to a few select individuals (like Phil) who have decided to "pull the trigger"...even a guy in NorCal with a RS6...yes a RS6! Since February, I think I have helped 5 different (1 local..and 4 out of state) A6 owners with there Nav+ installs...and a few A4 owners. Also, I spent $200 and purchased the audi specific wire extraction tools for the 8/10/20 pin female harnesses (see pix); these are available to anyone (free of charge). This way, folks aren't forced to cut any wires behind their Sym I/II, while doing this install. This is a bonus.

Also, a lot of folks don't know that the Nav+ has a seperate audio/video input that can allow you to add a DVD/MP3 player/changer etc. Check out www.nexxtel.de for details. These interface devices cost about $180 (shipped from Germany) and allow you to have Red/White/Yellow RCA inputs into the Nav+. You can add a seperate DVD/CD/MP3 changer in your trunk....or whatever source has RCA outputs. Now that's what I call scalable!!

I'm currently installing the Nexxtel adaptor and the Blaupunkt ME3 ($170 DVD/MP3/CD/TV Tuner) into my glovebox (I already cut the back of my glovebox out last night...it's a bit tricky...but very doable). Also, the ME3 had two additional sets of RCA inputs..so I can add an Ipod ...or mini-disc player very easily. With a R/RW DVD, I can put 4.7GB of MP3's...so take THAT...PhatBox!

If anyone is REALLY interested in taking the plunge...feel free to drop me an email..and we can chat off-line. Glad to help my fellow A6 owners.

Ciao.

Default Oh man!!!! Sweet...... of all the mods posted in this forum

this is money well spent. Rims, tips and the like are difficult to fully enjoy unless of course you are standing in your driveway staring at the car (which I have been caught doing on occasion)....this mod looks like the gift that keeps on giving. I want it! 00 4.2, How difficult is install? What type of setup is used for antenna/receiver (internal/external mount). Thanks guys

Paul's got more OEM electronics in his '97 A8...than most 2002 A8's. Paul is Captain of all mods!

Forgot to mention: Nav+ will work with PhatBox (one or two have tested it).
