About 2 years ago, on the A4 forum, someone posted that his dealer tech told him that if you recode your A4 2.8 ECU to think it's in an A6, it would 'unlock' the mystery 10 hp that the A6 has over the A4. Well, since I had a VAG com, I thought, what the hell, I'll try it. I noticed a change right away, but it was not what I had expected. The power delivery became VERY flat, and less exciting. (sound familiar?) When I first drove my A6, I was very disappointed in the power, compared to the A4 it was very flat and not exciting. full throttle felt like 1/2 throttle in the A4. All this time I wrote it off as the difference between the AHA ant ATQ engines.

This morning, I thought, hey, why not code the A6 to think its and A4, and see what happens. Well, immediately I felt that the engine felt more 'lively', and pushing the throttle seemed to have more of an effect than it did before. It's hard to say if just that code change did it, but I really liked the way it felt this morning, I'm going to keep it that way.

To make this change, you need a VAG COM. Go into engine, select 'recode'. change the last digit of the soft code from a 2 to a 1. the key needs to be on, the engine NOT running.

Naturally, I take no responsibility if you decide to do this, and it has adverse effects. USE AT OWN WILL.
